Oven and range failures choose their timing poorly — typically at dinner time, before gatherings, or during the holiday cooking season. We service electric and gas ranges, freestanding ranges, slide-in cooktops, and wall ovens across Boise, Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, Caldwell, and surrounding Treasure Valley communities. Electric oven: baking element failure (most common — visible as gap, blister, or burn mark on the element wire, or trips the breaker on startup). Gas range: igniter wear (most common — burner clicks 5–10 seconds before lighting, or won’t light at all). Both: temperature sensor drift (causes oven to run hotter or cooler than set temperature without a visible error code).
The baking element handles the majority of electric oven heat. Element failure is often visible before the oven stops completely: a gap or blister in the element wire indicates impending failure, and a burn mark indicates it has already failed at that point. When an element short-circuits, it trips the breaker at startup. Gas igniters glow to create the ignition point for the gas burner and gradually weaken over thousands of cycles. Igniter wear is the most common gas range call across the Treasure Valley. A burner that clicks 5–10 seconds before lighting has a weakening igniter. A burner that clicks without ever lighting has a failed one. Burner orifice blockage from baked-on spills is the second most common gas range issue — often cleanable without parts replacement during the same visit.
If you smell gas when operating your range or oven, turn off the burners, open windows, leave the home, and call us from outside. Do not operate any electrical switches, as spark ignition could ignite accumulated gas. Gas odor during operation indicates a gas valve leak, burner seating issue, or flex connector problem requiring immediate professional attention. We respond to Treasure Valley gas odor calls as emergency service.
